taking a race number

There is a big race a bit south of me, every memorial day weekend, it gets 10k runners, it is a 5 mile run in a beautiful NJ shore town. We forgot to sign up this year and won't be running. What happens a bunch with this race is folks get a number way back in Feb, then maybe they realize they can't run (for any number of reasons) so there are folks like me who didn't get a number and would take someone's number and run under their name.

I don't like this, i want to run under my name so i don't do it. would you ?

  1. Yeah, if you want to run under your name, then I wouldn't do it. I just don't like taking other's bibs to race in. It just doesn't feel right.

  2. I don't think it really matters to me. In my case, it may matter more to the person whose bib I use-- do they was a new PR for the SLOWEST race? ha As long as you know it was you- does it really matter?

  3. If it was a race I really wanted to run in I don't think I would have a problem using someone else's bib. But, for emergency purposes, I would make sure my name and info. were on the bib somewhere in case something happens...you just never know what could happen-ya know?

  4. No, I'd want to do it under my own name too. Sorry you missed the boat. What shore town, btw? I love to go to Avalon/Stone Harbor.

  5. I have never even thought of it before. If they were a really fast runner I would use their name. If they were super slow I would prefer to use mine :)
