6 miles and garmin question

Sunday I did 6 miles. I was happy to get out as the kids were a bit crazed. I was consistent as my first 3 miles were nearly the same as my last 3. I felt good.

I had my garmin and I love it, I love seeing what my pace is. I love trying to gage my pace and guessing what I am running based on what I am feeling. My question to you garmin users is...I don't understand why it won't show mile splits unless you actually hit the lap button at each mile ? The garmin knows when it has gone a mile so why can't it show miles on when you download to computer ? if i don't hit the lap button, i don't get mile splits i just get my overall time. Am I missing something ?

Have to switch workouts around a bit due to appts this week. Today was nothing, tomorrow I will spin, wed. run, thurs swim with iron lady, friday we will see how i fell. Sat will be tri class and sunday i want to run 7 miles....

  1. You need to set it up to show you the mile splits. otherwise, it won't do it. I had the same issue until one year ago. you can do this via the menu button. you can also customize your screen; mine shows lap pace, average pace, overall distance and time elapsed as one screen option; you have 2 other screen options available that you can set up and then scroll through.

  4. soocermom - the garmin 305 - you where it as a watch and it has gps so it can tell you how far you are going and how fast and do your heartrate....not the same thing as the garmin for your car.....

  5. Sorry, I am no help with the garmin, but I am thinking there is a way you can adjust the settings to do so! Nice job on the 6 miles!

  6. Running and Living is right.. there is a way you can program it to beep every mile and then store your splits so you can see them when you're done. I programmed mine a long time ago now so can't remember the steps, but play around with the programming menu and you'll figure it out! :)

  7. if you use something like sport tracks, when you download the data to your pc, you can get splits by mile or K or whatever you want.

  8. I had to set mine up to do the splits. It's in the menu and look under set up and see what it says. Should be there.

  9. I have a Garmin Forerunner 50, so not the GPS one but I believe they probably work the same. You have to set it to show the mile splits (you can even have it show other distance splits if you prefer). If you go the Garmin site they probably have something there or in the instruction book that came with your Garmin. Try You Tube also, I know I always find 'how to' things there.
