nutrition intervention

I am in a good place with exercise. My nutrition is better than it was, lot less fast food. More veggie and fruit in take, but i still would not say I eat very well and I need to get better. NEED to. I realize that one of the most effective ways to stay on good nutrition is being prepared. Food shopping with a list of items, planning out your menu for the week. I just can't find the way to make this a habit and ALWAYS do this. I slip and don't do a food shopping and then I just rely on going out to eat, fast food, or diners, sandwiches, you name it. I could eat out all the time, but this is not the best nutrition OR cost effective.

Help, any tips ?

  1. Being prepared is key. Asside from planning my meals and doing grocery Shopping on sunday, I like to make a good meal or two on Sunday that will carry-over into the week for lunches and such. I also like to keep a lot of fresh fruits and veggies on hand. I have noticed that the more fruits and veggies I have in my diet, the more I crave those instead of high processed foods and snacks.

  2. I agree with teacherwoman...being prepared is key. It takes a little planning, but I have to figure out what we're having every week or else it's just a nightmare trying to find things to make, rushing to the store, etc.. If I plan it out, I make one trip to the grocery store and am good for the week. That way I know we're eating healthy meals instead of reverting to take-out.

  3. keep nuts, berries and cheese on hand- the BEST convenience foods ever! You will be amazed at the amount of energy you will gain from those foods :) They are so satisfying and taste wonderful.

  4. I meal plan. We take the time and meal plan, shop and then prepare it all and get it ready for the week. Right down to measuring out snacks and everything.
