Incline

Today was my day to run on the treadmill with a workout from ironlady that will help me achieve my goal for the 5 mile run this weekend. It was a 35 minute run. First 10 minutes steady w build to hard effort at incline 1. I have NEVER used the incline on the treadmill and wow it makes a difference. Next was 10x (30 seconds at 30 seconds less my race pace, then 20 sec rest) on an incline of 4. It was hard but fun. Then finish up at zero incline (wahoo) steady effort. I felt great. I love having something different to do on the treadmill.

Do you use the incline ? when ? why ? how ?

  1. Sounds like a fun workout! Usually I don't use an incline b/c my treadmill workouts are either speed or easy runs. But, sometimes when I have a hill workout planned and can't get outside I'll use the incline to simulate a hill.

  2. Nice work on the mill!! I am really not sure what to tell you on the incline....I only run on the mill in the winter and it is not my favorite thing to do. I am interested to see what other people will say:) Good luck!

  3. YAY! SO happy to find your blog!!

I LOVE MY TREADMILL!! I always make sure it's inclided to some extent. NEVER below 1.5-2%. I try and do 80% of my runs at 3% and it has made a HUGE difference in my marathon times!!

    KEEP IT UP!!!

  4. I use the incline CONSTANTLY! I have terrible knees and a slight incline is good for them. I usually will walk at a 5% and will run somewhere between a 1.5 and a 3. It's a great addition to the workout and really pushes you!
